WNBA Legend Bridget Pettis to Host Meet & Greet and Book Signing This Saturday At The WPBA

SAN LEANDRO, CA — August 4, 2026 — The Women's Premier Basketball Association (WPBA) announced today that WNBA legend Bridget Pettis will join the league for an exclusive meet & greet and book signing during Round 13, taking place Saturday, August 8, 2026, in San Leandro, CA.

Pettis is a decorated figure in women's basketball history. An eight-year WNBA veteran who spent six seasons with the Phoenix Mercury, she scored the first basket in franchise history in the Mercury's inaugural game on June 22, 1997, and went on to set the franchise record for consecutive games played. She was inducted into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame in 2017. After her playing career, Pettis moved into coaching, serving as an assistant coach for the Mercury and helping guide the franchise to back-to-back WNBA championships in 2007 and 2009. She is also the author of "Journey to Freedom," a memoir chronicling her career and personal story.

Fans attending Round 13 will have the opportunity to meet Pettis in person, hear her story, and have their copies of "Journey to Freedom" signed. Books will be available for purchase on-site while supplies last.

"Basketball gave me everything, and now it's my turn to give back," said Pettis. "Coming out to Round 13 to meet fans and share my story through 'Journey to Freedom' is a full-circle moment. This league is building something special for the next generation of women's basketball, and I'm honored to be part of it."

"Bridget Pettis is a pioneer in this game, and having her join us for Round 13 means the world to our players and our fans," said Faatimah A, Founder and CEO of the Women's Premier Basketball Association. "Her journey, from the court to the championship bench to now sharing her story as an author, embodies exactly what the WPBA is about."

Rounds 13 and 14 mark the close of the WPBA's regular season, the league's fifth, which features eight Bay Area teams: the Alameda Wolves, Bay Area Phoenix, Bay City Blaze, Berkeley Royals, Hayward Reign, Oakland Swish, San Francisco Riptide, and Tech City Titans. The WPBA is the premier development league for women's professional basketball, recognized by FIBA and giving athletes a platform to maintain international eligibility while competing within the global professional basketball ecosystem.
