Town Takes World – Official Documentary Premiere

Oakland, CA – July 2, 2025 — The Women’s Premier Basketball Association (WPBA) invites the community to a powerful night of storytelling and celebration at the exclusive screening of Town Takes the World, a short documentary highlighting the historic rise of the Bay Area Phoenix—the first U.S. team to compete in the FIBA Women’s Basketball League Americas (WBLA).

The event will take place on Thursday, July 24, 2025, at the Oakland Hills Campus Performing Arts Center. Doors open at 7:00 PM. The evening will kick off with a vibrant community mixer featuring music, food, and local vendors. The screening will begin shortly after, followed by a dynamic panel discussion with players and special guests.

Town Takes the World documents more than just basketball. It follows the WPBA’s bold mission to build the first G-League equivalent for women—creating a direct pathway for elite athletes to reach the next level, whether in the WNBA, overseas, or with national teams.

“This is about more than one team’s journey,” said Women's Premier Basketball Association (WPBA)  Founder and CEO Faatimah A. “It’s about building infrastructure that women’s basketball has long deserved—and proving that elite talent exists right here in our communities when we choose to invest in it.”
